Networking Basics

Networks are built with two pieces of equipment, switches and routers.

Switches connect multiple devices on the same network within a building or campus.

Routers connect networks together.

Find Your Default Gateway

Open the Windows cmd line and type:

ipconfig

Your Default Gateway will then be given as an IP address. This is the IP address you should type into your browser address bar to access your router.

ipconfig /all - Gives you more detailed information than ipconfig.
