How to Fill an Area in Illustrator

When you have drawn something using the pen or line tool in Illustrator, and created an enclosed space, you may wish to fill that space with colour. Here we give links on how to do it.

A summary of the procedure is:

Converting your artwork to Live Paint groups allows you to colour them freely, as you would on paper.

To fill an area, you can use the Live Paint tool.

Select the artwork and convert it to outlines. To do this, use the following menu option:

Object / Path / Outline Stroke

Select the Live Paint Bucket tool:
